Opening Supplication (Du’a al-Istiftah) Before Prayer and Its Famous Forms
Du’a al-Istiftah is a recommended supplication said immediately after the opening Takbir and before reciting Al-Fatiha, helping the worshipper focus and attain humility.
The opening supplication (Du’a al-Istiftah) is a recommended Sunnah in prayer, said right after the Takbiratul Ihram and before reciting Al-Fatiha. It prepares the heart for focus and devotion in prayer.
Some of the most authentic forms reported from the Prophet ﷺ include:
-
First Form (most famous):
"Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabaarakasmuka, wa ta’ala jadduka, wa laa ilaha ghayruka." -
Second Form:
"Allahumma ba’id bayni wa bayna khataaya kama ba’adta baynal mashriqi wal maghrib, Allahumma naqini min khataaya kama yunqath-thawb al-abyad minad-danas, Allahumma aghsilni min khataaya bith-thalji wal-maa’i wal-barad." -
Third Form:
