How to Perform Salat al-Istikhara: Prayer and Dua for the Right Decision
Learn the steps of Salat al-Istikhara and the authentic dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ to seek guidance in marriage, travel, purchases, or other important decisions.
Salat al-Istikhara is a prophetic guidance for seeking Allah’s help when facing important decisions. It is performed in two rak‘ahs, followed by this dua:
"O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge, and I seek ability by Your power, and I ask You from Your immense favor. You know, and I do not; You have power, and I do not; and You know the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter (state it clearly, e.g., marrying so-and-so, traveling to a place, buying something) is good for my religion, my worldly life, and my end, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that it is bad for me, turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it."
Importance of Salat al-Istikhara:
-
It allows a Muslim to rely on Allah’s knowledge and power.
-

-
