Muslims begin fasting the White Days of Jumada, on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of each lunar month, raising the question of fasting only one day.

The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta explained that fasting the White Days is a confirmed Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Huraira reported: “My Prophet recommended three things: fasting three days every month, performing Duha prayer, and praying Witr before sleep.”

🌙 Fasting One Day is Permissible

  • Fasting one day of the White Days is allowed and rewarded, but does not earn the full reward of fasting all three days.

  • Missed days can be made up any time during the month.

  • Consecutive fasting is not required; the Prophet ﷺ sometimes fasted them consecutively and sometimes separately.

💫 Virtue of Fasting the White Days

  • These days carry great reward and are among the best for voluntary fasting.

  • Fasting all three days is equivalent to fasting the whole year.

  • The goal is to fast three days each month, either the White Days or other days.

📝 Practical Advice

  • Ideally, fast all three days to follow the Prophet ﷺ and attain maximum reward.

  • If a day is missed, fasting the remaining two days is sufficient, with the option to make up the missed day later.
