Many Muslims wonder whether their fast is valid if they forget to make the intention (niyyah) or skip suhoor during Ramadan. Fasting in Ramadan is a fundamental pillar of Islam and must not be neglected. Dar Al-Ifta explains that fasting without an intention is not valid, as intention is a key requirement for the validity of the fast.

Regarding suhoor, the scholars clarify that it is recommended and brings blessings and strength, but it is not a condition for the validity of the fast. A fasting person who skips suhoor still has a valid fast. It is, however, recommended to maintain the habit of making the intention daily and taking suhoor to strengthen and prepare for the day’s fast.
