The Travel Duʿā’ (Supplication) is one of the beautiful Sunnahs practiced by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ whenever he set out on a journey. Travel involves change, effort, and uncertainty, so Islam teaches believers to begin their trips with trust in Allah and heartfelt prayers for protection and ease.

When Should Travel Duʿā’ Be Said?

It is recommended to recite the travel supplication at the moment of riding or starting the journey, whether traveling by car, plane, train, or any other means. It is a confirmed Sunnah that prepares the heart for the road ahead.

Supplication When Riding

The traveler begins with praise:
“Glory be to the One who has subjected this to us, and we could not have done it by ourselves. And surely, to our Lord we will return.”

Then says:
O Allah, we ask You in this journey for righteousness and piety, and deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. You are the Companion on the journey and the Guardian over our families. I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from unpleasant sights, and from bad outcomes in wealth and family.

Supplication of Trust

Before departure, the traveler says:
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no power nor strength except with Allah.

These words fill the heart with confidence and calmness.

Supplication When Arriving

When stopping in a place, say:
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

It protects the traveler from harm in unfamiliar places.

Supplication When Returning

On the way back, add:
Returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.

Virtues of Travel Supplication

  • Brings peace of mind.

  • Connects the heart to Allah.
